Have you checked out what’s on offer at our producers’ markets? We run two regular local produce markets at 4 Fore Street. These run on the first Friday and the third Saturday of each month, from 10am–2pm. Make a note of these upcoming dates for early summer:
Friday 2nd June
Saturday 17th June
Friday 7th July
Saturday 15th July
And don’t forget that we also run a daily fruit and veg stall outside 4 Fore Street every Thursday, Friday and Saturday (9.30am–3.30pm). This is extremely popular with PL12 residents, who call in for local free range eggs, local potatoes and seasonal fresh produce.
If you visit us on a Saturday morning you will be greeted by one of our youngest volunteers, Georgie. We caught up with her recently to see how she finds volunteering in our Community Hub. Georgie has found the social aspect of helping with the stall particularly rewarding, and told us: “I like chatting to people and its really interesting to see what people like to buy.”
We asked Georgie what product was most popular, and it seems that bananas are the top selling fruit. Another favourite, Georgie tells us, is the stall’s local free range eggs, with several customers reporting that they’ve found a double yolk or two among their dozen eggs!
Asked what she has found most surprising about volunteering at the community hub, Georgie said: “It’s just so varied. You can never predict how busy the morning is going to be – I’m never bored!”
Georgie is working towards her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and will soon complete her three months of volunteering service. However, she was quick to add that she will be back after the summer break to pick up her role, as she aims to start her Silver Award later this year.
A massive thank you to Georgie and all our other volunteers. If you’d like to give a little of your time for a positive community cause, take a look at our latest volunteering vacancies.
