A super start for the Scrapstore
It’s been an exciting and successful first few weeks for the Saltash Scrapstore, which recently opened on Fore Street!
The Scrapstore project, a collaboration between Community Enterprises PL12, Saltash Environment Action (SEA) and Saltash Chamber of Commerce, takes donations of unused arts and crafts materials and makes them available for sale at low prices. It’s a fantastic way to inspire creativity and cultivate community spirit, while helping the environment by reducing the amount of material going to landfill.
In its first few weeks, the Scrapstore has also been a hub of creative activity, running several workshops which have proved very popular. This has included a Story and Craft session, which brought together local children for a book reading, followed by a fun activity to craft a crocodile hat featured in the story. This is hoped to become a regular Monday event – check the Scrapstore Facebook page for details of upcoming sessions and for information about how to book.
The Scrapstore also made a touching visual contribution for the Remembrance commemorations earlier this month by filling its window with a wonderful display. Hundreds of poppies were lovingly hand-painted by the Saltash public, young and old, creating a thoughtful tribute and an impressive spectacle to support the town’s amazingly well-attended Remembrance parade on Sunday 11th November.
Get crafty at the Scrapstore
There are plenty more craft-based get-togethers lined up at the Scrapstore over the coming weeks. It is hosting a couple of evening workshops for making eco-friendly chocolate advent calendars on 20th and 23rd November. Participants are welcome to bring a bottle to what promise to be fun evening gatherings. Places are limited so pre-booking is essential. For information about these and other upcoming craft events at the Scrapstore, keep an eye on our Facebook page.
Do you have an arts and crafts skill you’d like to share? The Scrapstore is looking for someone who can run a Christmas evening workshop. If you’re interested, please get in touch to discuss your ideas. Email saltashscrapstore@gmail.com or call 07395 332799.
Waste wanted!
The Scrapstore is always on the lookout for donations quality leftovers to top up its supplies. From fabrics and foam to paints and papers, any usable arts and crafts materials are gratefully received. It’s also happy to accept home decorating materials and supplies, including building offcuts and unfinished pots of paints or varnishes. If you’re not sure whether it’s something they might want, get in touch with the Scrapstore and they’ll be happy to let you know.
