Several local organisations were represented at the public meeting to discuss the future of 18 Belle Vue Road, held at the Guildhall last week. The building is currently the home of Saltash Citizen’s Advice Bureau but earmarked for disposal by Cornwall Council. Members from the CAB joined others from groups including (but not only) Living at Home, Saltash Heritage, the Food Bank and Backbone Media, as well as Town and County Councillors.
Every seat was taken as a short presentation outlined possible ways the building could be developed for community use, then Peter Thistlethwaite, Chair of Saltash Gateway CIC, led a wide-ranging discussion of the issues involved. Short and long-term funding proved to be the biggest concern.
A business plan for the building is now being developed, and this will form the basis of any proposal put to Cornwall Council.
