Dementia Voice PL12 are proud to announce that we have started a Veterans Group in Saltash. With funding from Greenwich Hospital London, this new project is designed to help people who have served in the Armed Forces and who are in any way affected by dementia.
The group will be held fortnightly on a Saturday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The venue will be the Community Market at 4 Fore Street Saltash. The first meeting is on Saturday 11th February.
Minette Wright from Greenwich Hospital was on hand to officially launch the Veterans Group on 28th January 2017 at 4.30pm. The event was also attended by the Mayor Cllr Hillary Frank and her consort Shojiro Frank, together with representatives from local Armed Forces organisations and ex-service personnel who have been affected by dementia. An afternoon tea was served and our thanks go to the local businesses and individuals who donated the lovely food that everyone enjoyed.
How to be Dementia Friendly
If you deal with the public in a business or organisation, sometimes it’s hard to know how best to support customers and visitors who are affected by dementia. With over 500 people in the PL12 area affected by the condition, we know it is a very real issue in our town.
If you would like to make your business or organisation more dementia friendly, we can help. Our two volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, trained by the Alzheimer’s Society, are keen to offer free dementia awareness guidance to businesses and other organisations in Saltash. Please call 01752 848348 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
And please step forward if would like to help out with this initiative – we are seeking to train more volunteers as Dementia Friends Champions. Call 01752 848348 or email us at email@example.com to find out more.
