Cornwall Council’s proposed sale of 18 Belle Vue Road raised the likelihood that the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) would lose its long term base in Saltash.
Now the planned disposal of the property by Cornwall Council presents the people of Saltash with both a challenge and an opportunity; how can the building be best used while ensuring its future is financially secure?
The Saltash Gateway CIC has reached agreement with Cornwall Council to take over the running of the building on a 2 year trial, not-for-profit basis. In that time it will be responsible for ensuring the property benefits the local community and generates a sustainable income stream. If that is achieved, 18 Belle Vue Road could remain a community asset in the long term, and not be disposed of.
This agreement means that the Citizens Advice Bureau can stay where it is. However, it’s a big building with plenty of room for other office-based activities. What would you like to see happen now? How do you think the building should be used? We are asking individuals and organisations for ideas which will benefit Saltash and the surrounding area. All suggestions are welcome, and will be carefully considered. Ideas so far include making the building a hub for local volunteer groups, letting space to businesses that might benefit from its central location and proximity to CAB, flexible “hot-desking” for business start-up, enabling grant-aided projects for unemployed people.
Are you interested in taking space in Belle Vue Road in the future? Are you excited by the possibilities the building presents? Would you consider getting involved in this project to help secure the building for town use? If you can answer yes to any of these questions then please contact us right away and come to the Public Meeting if you can on Wednesday 26th November. You can also book an appointment to view during our informal Open Morning on Saturday 29th November. Reserve a time slot by emailing email@example.com or phone 07813 890416
