Dementia Voice PL12 is a group of people from all different walks of life; some living with Dementia, some carers, all of whom have been affected by this disease in one way or another.
Our aim is to see the PL12 area become a place that is Dementia friendly and that promotes that living well with this disease is possible.
How we can help
We run free groups where anyone affected by dementia is welcome to come and find friendly support, information and advice.
We run a Dementia Drop In Cafe every Tuesday from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm at the Community Hub at 4 Fore Street. Anyone who is living with dementia or has been affected by dementia is welcome to come along and chat to our volunteers. It is a chance to meet with friendly people, get information and advice, and to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and delicious cake which is kindly donated by St Anne’s Care Home.
We also run a Veterans Group every other Saturday from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm at our Community Hub at 4 Fore Street. Anyone who has served in our Armed Forces and been affected by dementia is welcome to come along for a chat and to reminisce regarding their time in the Services over a cup of tea and a snack.
The launch of the Veterans Group in January 2017, with Minette Wright from Greenwich Hospital, Mayor Cllr Hillary Frank and her consort Shojiro Frank, representatives from local Armed Forces organisations and ex-service personnel affected by dementia.
How you can help
If you would like to help the work of Dementia Voice PL12 there are a number of ways to get involved. If you are interested in any of the following please contact us by calling 01752 848348 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would like to help support what we do then please get in touch. There are many volunteering opportunities to assist by helping with the Cafe, arranging events, fundraising, publicity, etc.
Become a Dementia Friend
If you run a business, organisation or community group in the PL12 area we can help you support people living with dementia. We currently have two volunteer Dementia Champions, trained by the Alzheimer’s Society, who can offer free dementia awareness sessions for your staff/volunteers. We are also happy for individuals to contact us if they wish to learn more about dementia.
Become a Dementia Champion
If you would like to get involved in helping us to liaise with local organisations regarding becoming dementia friendly we are looking to train more volunteers as Dementia Champions.
Spread the Word
If you know of anyone affected by dementia locally – whether they are relatives, friends or neighbours, please let them know about our groups and services and the support we can offer.
