Our Directors and members have worked hard to ensure that local residents could get their experiences and ideas over to senior people in the NHS in Cornwall and in Cornwall Council. The organisations are working together on a plan for the future of health and care services in the region. Mainly through Patient Groups at our two GP surgeries, and through our own publicity, including leafleting in Fore Street, we ensured a great turnout for two consultative meetings at the Guildhall on Jan 12th.
Both sessions were lively and informative, and even our local MP Sheryll Murray came along.
Two things raised most concern at the meetings. The first is the likely withdrawal of medical care at St Barnabas Hospital. The Minor Injuries Unit has been taken away and the beds are candidates for closure.
The second is that Urgent Care will be located outside of Saltash because of our position at the far end of East Cornwall and near to Plymouth.
We now have to wait for a revised version of the plan for final consultation at the end of February.
